Kudos to the seller for providing a product of outstanding quality. This unit had been discontinued by the manufacturer, but Sullivan had a gently used product at a great price. Shipping was quick and the unit arrived in perfect condition. VERY happy with the seller! It's been a long time since I saw a clock-radio you could attach an external antenna to, and . . . it's also been a long time since I've seen a clock-radio that had impressive reception. This unit has above-average sound, which was by far our main purchasing point. It wasn't cheap, even secondhand, and it took some doing to mount it under a cabinet. (I ran a flexible metal bracket under it, which is invisible unless you're lying on the countertop.) But the sound is much better than average. That said, the radio reception won't impress anyone. Apparently the power cord is also the antenna, and if you fiddle with the cord you can sometimes improve clarity, or sometimes make it worse, but generally with an under-cabinet radio you want to HIDE the power cord, not leave it out so you can play with it in hopes of pulling in a station that you ought to be able to receive easily. My car, which is not an expensive car, has a factory stereo and an $8 compact antenna that can effortlessly pull in FAR more stations than this Sony radio. And that's kind of embarrassing. Still, if you listen to strong local stations or want to use the CD player in this unit, it's definitely got better sound than a $20 under-cabinet unit from Walmart. This product is exactly what it is advertised to be. It's an under mount kitchen radio cd player. It is very easy to install, set-up and operate. The sound is okay - better than most radios, but certainly not on par with a mini-system or conventional stereo with bookshelf speakers. That being said its for a kitchen - so great sound would get lost over the noise of the kitchen hood, microwave and other cooking sounds. This is our second one of these units - the first lasted over 10 years, before radio reception problems became unbearable, causing us to replace it with this unit. That brings us to the reason for 4 and not 5 stars. Sony in its infinite wisdom but the radio antenna in the power cord. That means constant fiddling with cord position to get decent reception. Because the antenna is located in the power cord, the radio is prone to RF interference from other kitchen appliances and lights. This radio also seems really prone to interference during periods of very high humidity.Bottom line - reasonable product for a kitchen, easy to install, good CD player, radio problems due to poor antenna design.I have been amazed at how hard it has been to find a good functioning under the cupboard cd player. I tried two of the newer versions but neither of them lasted longer than a month so I thought I would maybe try an old school used one. This one kind of worked for a while but it doesn't play cd's now which is the whole reason I was looking for one in the first place. If I was able to find a new one at a decent price, I would maybe give it a go again, but I have not had luck with used electronics.I am happy to have found an honest seller and a CD player that was used and came as described. It works great. I loved my Sony 3 disk player and had it for many years. It stopped working and I was able to replace it at a reasonable cost. Thank you.The product was easy to install and arrived well packed. No template, paperwork or remote were included. Average sound and average features, but everything worked. I was somewhat disappointed to see the manufacture date of 2003 on the unit. If I had known it was this old I likely would not have bought it, but nonetheless, the price was fair and it does the job. The only true downside is poor radio reception. This item was just what I was looking for. It has a small profile and fits well under the kitchen cabinet and frees up in my case some precious counter space. I'm not an audiophile, but the sound is good. I use the player to listen to FM radio and to play CDs while working in the kitchen. I have occasional minor static depending on where I'm standing in the kitchen, but most of the time the FM reception is fine. (I was very limited in where I could install this, so that could explain the occasional static.) I could not tell that that this was a refurbished item.My wife asked me to install an under-cabinet radio in our kitchen and, after doing some research, concluded that currently-produced kitchen radios/CD players are all either a) ugly, b) overpriced, or mostly c) both!I was happy to find this Sony unit available used on Amazon and installed it under a kitchen cabinet where it looks great, more importantly sounds great, and does just what we need it to! My only niggle with the design is that the nice, smooth-turning knob on the front is wasted on the Timer function. It would make much more sense to use it for volume and use those little clicky buttons for the timer.
