After being chief conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra for eleven seasons, the maestro Mariss Jansons has resigned his directorship for health reasons. Come 2016/2017, Mr. Daniele Gatti will succeed the RCOs beloved sixth conductor. This tribute to Mr. Jansons draws upon the wealth of recordings in the Dutch public broadcasting network archive and the archives of the BBC, Deutschlandradio and Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg, mixing repertoire commonly associated with Maestro Jansons with unexpected treats, such as works by Gubaidulina, Varèse and Louis Andriessen. This 12CD/1DVD set, consisting entirely of previously unreleased recordings both audio and visual, is an important supplement to the existing Jansons and Royal Concertgebouw discography. Mariss Jansons Live, The Radio Recordings 1990-2014 is a limited edition: no more than 1.500 copies will be made available. I can well imagine this set providing as much pleasure and musical stimulation as its six equally nourishing predecessors. A listening experience to savor.
